Itinerary

Aug 2 – Vancouver

Today, board your flight bound for Vancouver, Canada. Upon arrival, you will receive a warm greeting from your Universal Travel representative. Then, board your luxury motorcoach and transfer to your hotel (depending on flight schedules, you may have a late evening arrival).

Overnight: Vancouver Downtown

Aug 3 – Vancouver City Tour & Grouse Mountain

After a leisurely breakfast, depart for your panoramic city tour. Experience the unique history and beauty as you drive through the modern streets of Vancouver. You’ll see renowned sights like Gastown, Chinatown, Granville Island, and Stanley Park. Next, board a             gondola and soar atop Grouse Mountain! Upon arrival, you will have free access to the Lumberjack Show, the Birds in Motion demonstration, and a wilderness sanctuary for Grinder and Coola – two resident Grizzly Bears. Additionally, enjoy free access to the scenic chairlift that will take you to the summit of Grouse Mountain, offering spectacular panoramic views of Vancouver and the  grandeur of the Pacific Ocean. This evening, enjoy an unforgettable dinner at the Top of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant!

Aug 4 – Vancouver to Kamloops

Early this morning, you will be transferred to the Vancouver train station. Here, board the Rocky Mountaineer (Gold Leaf Car) and begin your fascinating rail journey. Welcome aboard! After departing early, with breakfast and lunch served onboard, travel to Kamloops, located in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey, you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like landscapes of the BC interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Your day ends in the evening as the train travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake into the town of Kamloops. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Aug 5 – Kamloops to Jasper

Early this morning, your journey continues north and east into the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta (breakfast and lunch will be served onboard). Once again, you will be surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow the banks of the North Thompson River through the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains, climbing ever nearer to the high peaks of the Continental Divide. Today’s highlights include Mount Robson, at 12,972 feet, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, followed by Pyramid Falls and the climb over the Yellowhead Pass into Jasper National Park. Your rail journey ends this evening upon arrival in the resort town of Jasper. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Aug 6 – Jasper

Today, depart for a full day of exciting excursions! First, board the Jasper SkyTram and soar above sub-alpine vegetation, watching for wildlife below, as you gently ascend to the upper station located 7,425 feet above sea level – the longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada! Next, travel through Jasper’s unspoiled beauty to stunning Maligne Lake, and embark on a panoramic tour atop the crystal waters of Maligne Lake, fed by the glaciers of Jasper National Park. Cruise along the scenic shores populated by towering peaks and roaming wildlife enroute to spectacular Spirit Island, one of the most  photographed locations in the world! On your way back, enjoy a photo stop at Maligne Canyon, one of the area’s most spectacular landmarks. Tonight’s dinner will be served in the hotel’s dining room.

Aug 7 – Jasper to Banff

Travel from Jasper to Banff via one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. Bow Lake, the Columbia Icefield, Glacier Skywalk, and Athabasca Falls are among the day’s highlights! The Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle and one of the most accessible icefields in North America. Here, you will ride an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn about its geological features. Lunch is provided at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre. Afterward, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving in Banff this afternoon. Tonight’s dinner will be served in the hotel’s dining room.

Aug 8 – Banff, Moraine Lake & Lake Louise

Begin the morning with a brief panoramic sightseeing tour of Banff. Among the points of interest are Bow Falls, Surprise Corner, and the Hoodoos. Next, enjoy a photo stop at Moraine Lake, a stunning turquoise lake cradled by the Valley of the Ten Peaks. From here, travel a short distance to Lake Louise. From the vivid turquoise waters to the soaring peaks encircling the lake, Lake Louise offers a stunning mountain setting. It’s hard to resist dipping a hand into the water just to see if it’s actually real! Enjoy free time at the lake for lunch and shopping before returning to Banff. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore downtown Banff on own.

Aug 9 – Banff to Calgary

Today, depart for Calgary. Explore Calgary and its landmarks on a panoramic city tour. Travel through the city while discovering how the Calgary Stampede, the 1988 Winter Olympics, and the railway helped shape this cosmopolitan city. Discover city sights such as Calgary City Hall, Olympic Plaza, Telus Spark, Calgary Zoo, East Village, Studio Bell, Stampede Park, shopping areas, Heritage Park Historical Village, Canada Olympic Park, Crescent Hill Peace Bridge, Downtown Calgary, Chinatown, and the Calgary Tower. Next enjoy free time at Calgary Heritage Park! With more than 200 exhibits and attractions spread over 127 acres of lush parkland, this historic village has a lot to offer. Tour the Park on an antique steam train, set sail aboard Calgary’s only paddlewheel ship, visit the farm animals at the ranch, learn about Blackfoot culture in the First Nations area, engage with Western Canada’s energy past, present and future at Prospect Ridge, explore a bustling young prairie town and discover one of the world’s largest public collections of antique vehicles at Gasoline Alley Museum. Later today, check in to your hotel. Tonight, enjoy one of the city’s most unique dining experiences: a special farewell dinner at the Sky 360 restaurant, located at the top of the Calgary Tower in the heart of Calgary! Together with your fellow travelers, take in views of the Rockies, the city’s expansive countryside, and the lively downtown core while enjoying a glass of wine and inspired dishes in an elegant space.

Aug 10 – Home

After a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred to the Calgary airport and assisted with your check-in for your flight home. Memories of the Rocky Mountaineer and the Canadian Rockies will last a lifetime!                      (B)
